Master of color and interior designer Tekla Severin created for Formex

Award-winning colorist and interior designer Tekla Evelina Severin created the main exhibition at Formex in January and produced this year’s campaign images. Tekla is a well-known designer who has worked extensively in the international design and furniture market. With her colorful design language and sense of color, she creates magic and in September she was also awarded Elle’s Interior Designer of the Year 2022 award.

The exhibition“Dimensions of Colour”, a playful and architectural experience of color through many layers of spatialities, shapes and patterns. “A kind of labyrinth of discovery” says Tekla herself.

– We are extremely happy with our cooperation with Tekla. As the Formex theme for January is “Color Vibes”, Tekla was a perfect choice of creator for the exhibition. It will be exciting to see how she incorporates news from Formex exhibitors,” says Kajsa Falck TorlegĂĄrd, former creative project manager at Formex.

Tekla’s signature is her innovative, and unexpected color compositions that create emotions and inspiration. She has a background in art and is a trained interior architect and furniture designer. Today she works multidisciplinary with and between interior design, set design, creative direction and photography, but always with color as a common ground.

Her broad and at the same time specific way of working with color is reflected in the breadth and variety of the different companies she has worked with, some examples are; Danish Montana Furniture, Louis Poulsen, and Stilleben Architects, Norwegian Heymat, Swedish Fjällräven, NCS Färginstitut, SL, Ikea, Apoteket and Ogeborg, American Apple, Spanish furniture company Sancal, Italian kitchen company Very Simple Kitchen, (for which she was also awarded the Kitchen Designer of the Year 2022 by the international ELLE DECO jury), to name a few.

– Color is never absolute, always relative, and so powerful yet so fleeting and changeable. It is what surrounds a color that defines it. And this is what I find so interesting to explore. Working with combinations of camouflage or contrast, or the balance in between. As here in “Dimension of Colour” where the exhibition form with its color elements both frames and highlights and at the same time interacts with the objects. An experience with many unexpected dimensions and much to discover was the vision behind the exhibition format itself,” says Tekla Severin.
