Zandra Rhodes Formex Guest Influencer

Zandra Rhodes is a legend in the world of design. Her colorful, flowing garments have adorned royalty and world-famous rock artists. At 78, she is still as relevant as ever – with new collections and her own museum. Zandra Rhodes is the Formex Guest Influencer for the fair in January 2019.

In 2020, Zandra Rhodes celebrated 50 years as a designer. It all started with training at the Royal Arts College in London in the 1960s. In the same city she has her own textile museum and in 2019 she was in the spotlight for one of Freddy Mercury’s garments for the Queen movie.

– Zandra Rhodes is a superstar and iconic in her design. And a true ‘influencer’ in the true sense of the word, known for its colorful designs. Originally a pattern designer, she has spent decades making clothes for celebrities such as Princess Diana of Wales, Debbie Harry, Kylie Minogue, Paris Hilton, Helen Mirren and others. She was punk before there was punk,” says Lotta Ahlvar, former project manager for Formex.

At the Formex entrance square, Zandra created a completely unique exhibition that is partly a replica of her own home. There was plenty of color, humor and nods to many of Zandra’s design colleagues and celebrity friends.

– “I am very happy to come to Formex and be part of such an amazing exhibition,” says Zandra.

Scandinavian design and interior design is an area that interests her.

– I admire so much in Scandinavian design. I admire Marimekko for its purity, originality and distinctive expression. “Ikea is another inspiration in terms of how this amazing company answers so many questions about what is essential, but still practical and based on the needs of life – absolutely brilliant,” says Zandra Rhodes.

Zandra Rhodes’ own Fashion & Textile Museum in London is a colorful building housed in a former warehouse. Learn more about Zandra Rhodes and see her current collections at www.zandrarhodes.com. Read more about the museum: www.ftmlondon.org.
