The winner of the Formex Sustainability Award 2026 will be rewarded with a sculpture by artist Susanne Pontus Persson. In her SPILL series, she uses various pieces of marble waste from both her own and others’ productions to create unique works. Each piece of marble waste, these remnants of the world and their specific character and limitations, becomes the starting point for each subsequent emerging work. <\/p>\n

After graduating from the School of Visual Arts in New York and working in the art world, she started Public Studio in 2012, focusing on using leftover and vintage marble from abandoned quarries to create unique furniture and objects, with a focus on sustainability.<\/p>\n

“As an artist, I have always been interested in the visual expressions and symbols of society and their connections to sociological structures and cultural hierarchies. My work with marble in Public Studio has always been based more on materiality than concept, but as in my art, it touches on issues of the passage of time and symbols like the ruin. Here, in a different way, I have allowed myself to follow the material and let it guide me and the work forward.
My work often deals with issues of time and displaced semantics. Where the material stone, my main working material, itself symbolizes the passage of time and its dissolution.” <\/p>\n

Exhibitors at Formex during the last implementation period submit an application themselves. We welcome all initiatives, big and small, old and new. The jury will review all applications and announce the nominees in late fall. The nominated entries will be promoted through our channels, including press and PR, and in a dedicated exhibition at Formex in January where the winner will also be presented.<\/p>\n
